Description
Copilot in Edge is the AI mode built into Microsoft Edge. Microsoft launched it in July 2025 as Copilot Mode, an opt-in experimental mode for Edge on Windows and Mac, and has since folded it into the browser as Copilot in Edge, with a mobile version in the Edge app.
There are two ways in. The Copilot sidepane sits beside the page you are reading and can summarise it, answer questions about it, help draft text or create images without leaving the tab. The Copilot new tab page replaces the usual start page with a single input box that combines chat, search and navigation, routing a question, a search or a web address to the right place. With your permission Copilot can see all your open tabs, which is what makes it useful for comparing products, apartments or travel options spread across several sites, and it accepts voice instructions for finding things on a page or opening tabs to compare.
Journeys groups past browsing into topics (related pages, searches and chats) that you can reopen from the new tab page, and optional memory lets Copilot carry context between sessions. Features such as tab context, memory and Journeys are individually switchable in settings, and the classic Edge experience remains available. Copilot in Edge is free with a Microsoft account; a Microsoft 365 subscription raises usage limits and connects it to Word, Excel, Outlook and OneDrive.
