Description
Balsamiq is one of the longest-running wireframing tools, built around a deliberately sketchy, low-fidelity look so that reviews stay on structure, flow and content instead of colours and fonts. It is aimed at product managers, founders, consultants and developers as much as at designers: you drag UI controls onto boards, link screens together and share projects with reviewers who can comment for free.
Balsamiq AI
Balsamiq AI is a chat assistant inside the editor. Describe a screen or a whole user flow and it produces editable wireframes; drop in a screenshot of an existing app or a photo of a whiteboard or napkin sketch and it rebuilds it as a wireframe; select elements and ask for changes; or generate sketch-style placeholder images. Since March 2026 it can also turn wireframes into higher-fidelity interactive prototypes in one click for stakeholder reviews and user testing. Balsamiq says customer data is not used to train the models it partners with, and the company holds SOC 2 Type II.
MCP server
The Balsamiq MCP server, included in every Cloud plan and the trial, connects projects to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, VS Code and other MCP clients. It works both ways: an assistant can build wireframes in your project from requirements or a screenshot, or read a board's screens, notes and comments to write code, user stories or a QA test plan from what the team agreed on. Integrations for Confluence, Jira and Slack embed boards where teams already work.
Pricing and platforms
Balsamiq Cloud runs in the browser with a 14-day free trial and no free plan; only editors are billed, and reviewers are unlimited. Billed annually, Starter is $16 per editor per month (10 projects, 500 AI credits per editor monthly), Teams $24 (100 projects, 1,000 credits, priority support) and Enterprise $35 (400 projects, 2,500 credits, SAML SSO, US or EU storage). The offline Balsamiq for Desktop app for Windows and macOS can be bought until December 31, 2026, as the company moves users to Cloud.
