Tucky

Tucky is a native macOS notes app built around a single interface idea: instead of living in a window you have to summon, your notes sleep as a thin stripe along the edge of the screen, titles turned on their side so you can read the stack without opening anything. Clicking one unfurls it onto the desktop while the rest stay tucked away.

What separates it from a plain sticky-notes utility is the agent sitting inside the notes. A global shortcut opens an ask bar from anywhere on the Mac, and the agent can read, rewrite, search across, and act on your notes rather than just storing them. On the Plus tier it reaches outside the app through connectors for Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, GitHub and Notion, so a line jotted down in a note can become a calendar entry or an issue without a copy-paste round trip. Writing is live Markdown with checkbox task support, and voice dictation covers 60+ languages.

The privacy model is the other half of the pitch, and it is stated precisely rather than vaguely: notes are encrypted on disk in a local-only file, and a note's body leaves the Mac only when you explicitly ask the agent to read or send it. Sign-in, AI turns and connectors run through a coconutStudio account; the notes themselves do not sync to a server by default.

Pricing. The free tier keeps five notes encrypted on the Mac with no AI, voice or connectors. Plus is $4/month and unlocks unlimited notes, hosted reasoning models (ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini), voice dictation and the app connectors.

Requirements. macOS 15 or later, on both Apple silicon and Intel. The download is roughly 15 MB and updates itself.

Tucky suits Mac users who take scrappy, frequent notes and want them within a glance and a keystroke — and who would rather their notes stay on their own disk than in someone's cloud index.
