LivingWriter

LivingWriter is a browser-based writing app for books, screenplays and long documents, built as a cloud alternative to desktop tools like Scrivener. A manuscript is organised into chapters and subchapters alongside notes, to-dos and a research board, and characters, settings and objects live as Story Elements that stay linked to the text where they appear. Plotting boards lay the book out visually, templates provide fiction and nonfiction structures such as the Hero's Journey or romance beats, and a screenplay editor handles script formatting.

The AI features are optional and work from the context of your own manuscript. AI Chat answers questions about the draft, such as a character's motivation or where a detail was introduced. AI Analysis comments on narrative, tone and structure. AI Outlines turns a premise, characters and constraints into a chapter-by-chapter plan, AI Rewrite offers alternative versions of a selected passage, AI Summarize condenses a section, a converter turns a chapter into screenplay blocks, and image generation creates reference pictures for Story Elements and book cover concepts. LivingWriter states that it does not use manuscripts, notes or Story Elements to train its AI.

The free plan covers one manuscript with basic export and a small taste of AI. Pro costs $149 a year ($19.99 month to month) and adds unlimited manuscripts, print-ready export formats, the full boards system, collaboration and everyday AI; Pro + AI costs $199 a year for full AI limits, manuscript chat, screenplay conversion and AI images. Integrations include Google Drive and Canva.
