DeepL Write

What it is

DeepL Write is the AI writing assistant from DeepL SE, the Cologne company best known for DeepL Translator (listed separately on onei.ai). DeepL introduced it in January 2023. Write does not translate: you paste or type text in one language, and it returns an improved version in the same language, correcting errors and offering rewordings. It sits in a tab next to the translator on deepl.com, and a paid tier, DeepL Write Pro, is sold as part of DeepL's subscription plans.

Key features

• Corrections and rewrites: fixes spelling, grammar and punctuation, and can rephrase sentences for clarity and fluency. A "Corrections only" switch limits it to fixing errors without rewording, and "Show changes" highlights every edit.
• Alternatives on click: click any word for synonyms, or a sentence for other phrasings.
• Styles and tones: rewrite in a writing style such as Simple, Business, Academic or Casual, or a tone such as Enthusiastic, Friendly, Confident or Diplomatic.
• Style rules: Pro users can set shared style rules, so a team's house style is applied to every Write suggestion. The editor also has a separate Terms setting.
• Where it works: the web editor, the DeepL desktop apps for Windows and macOS, and DeepL's Chrome, Firefox and Edge extensions, which DeepL says work inside Gmail, Google Docs and Google Slides. The Write Pro product page also lists Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Developers on a DeepL API Pro plan can call text improvement through the API (v2 endpoint only), and DeepL's MCP server exposes rephrase and correct tools to AI assistants.

Languages: DeepL's service specification lists German, British and American English, French, Italian, Spanish, and European and Brazilian Portuguese for Write Pro.

Who it's for

People writing in one of those languages, including in a second language, who want text that reads naturally rather than just error-free. It also suits teams that want a shared house style across emails, reports and documentation. For business customers, DeepL lists ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and HIPAA compliance, plus SSO, audit logs and bring-your-own-key encryption on enterprise plans.

Pricing

The basic web version of DeepL Write is free to use. Write Pro has no standalone plan. As listed on DeepL's pricing page in October 2026 (euro prices for Germany, VAT included), it is an add-on for the Individual and Team Translator plans at €6.99 per user/month billed annually, and is included in the Business and Enterprise plans. Prices vary by region. A Write Pro trial is available only while your DeepL Pro subscription is itself in trial.
