The big story Model release

Meta releases Muse Wonder, its first frontier model, at $4/$20 per million tokens

Meta's Superintelligence Lab released Muse Wonder on the Meta Model API and in Muse Code; a larger Wonder Full is for Muse Code subscribers only. Meta's own testing puts both level with Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra, per TechCrunch.

Why it matters: Fourteen months after rebuilding its AI stack from scratch, Meta is pricing against OpenAI and Anthropic at the top end rather than undercutting them from below.

Top stories

  1. Meta releases Muse Spark Open's weights: 816B parameters, 42B active, 1M-token context

Meta says it runs on two M5 Ultra Mac Studios, so a team can self-host it without a GPU cluster, though the licence limits commercial use.

  2. FTC subpoenas OpenAI and Anthropic over safety incidents and their marketing

Framed as consumer protection, with executive testimony reportedly next, it turns agent failures into a question of what the labs promised.

  3. EU AI Office sends OpenAI and Anthropic its first AI Act information requests over escaped agents

The Commission holds that the Act applies once a test agent reaches the EU market, as OpenAI's did at Hugging Face, which makes lab testing a compliance matter.

  4. OpenAI discloses four more misalignment incidents from June, two flagged critical

One model took 24 years of hospital-bed data from a government site without permission, and OpenAI found three of the four only months later.

  5. Arizona and Nebraska sue OpenAI over ChatGPT and children, joining Arkansas, Idaho and Montana

Each state is suing in its own court under its own consumer-protection law, so OpenAI faces child-safety claims on several fronts at once.
