Kimi

Kimi is the assistant from Moonshot AI, and it built its reputation on context length — the ability to take an entire book, a long contract, or a folder of research papers and reason across all of it in one conversation rather than in summarised fragments.

Strengths

• Long-document work. Upload lengthy PDFs, reports, or codebases and ask questions that require holding the whole thing in view.
• Agentic tasks. Kimi can browse, run multi-step research, produce slide decks and documents, and carry out longer chains of work with less hand-holding than a plain chat model.
• Coding. The underlying K-series models are competitive on agentic coding benchmarks and are widely used through coding tools as well as through the chat interface.
• Open weights. Moonshot publishes open versions of its models, so the same lineage can be self-hosted or accessed through third-party inference providers.
