Description
What it is
Rosebud AI is a browser-based game maker where you describe a game in plain English and an AI assistant called Rosie writes the code and generates the art and sound for it. The result is a playable game in the browser, built as real JavaScript on Three.js that you can open, read and edit. You keep iterating by chat ("make the jumps floatier"), playtest in a live preview next to the conversation, and publish to a shareable link. Rosebud says more than 2.5 million games have been made on the platform, spanning visual novels, RPGs, horror, puzzle, racing and idle games as well as 2D, 3D and voxel styles.
Key features
- Prompt-to-game editor: a chat panel, a live preview, an assets library and a code tab in one workspace, starting from a description or from genre templates such as interactive story, multiplayer obby, RPG or city builder.
- Editable code: the generated project is plain HTML, JavaScript and CSS; you can edit it by hand in the browser (Indie Dev and up) or download it and export a Windows build for Steam (Pro and up).
- Asset generation in the same flow: sprites and sprite-sheet animations, character portraits, backgrounds, UI elements, VFX sprites, tiling textures, 3D models, 360° skyboxes and sound.
- AI NPCs and in-game AI: characters with personalities, memory and free-form dialogue, plus AI-driven systems such as procedural quests or adaptive difficulty written into the game.
- Multiplayer: networking is pre-wired for co-op, PvP and persistent worlds.
- Publishing and remixing: one-click hosting, remixing of any published game, and, since October 2026, published games that play inline inside X posts.
Who it's for
Hobbyists and first-time creators who want to make a game without coding, solo developers who want a fast prototyping loop with code they can take over, and teachers who use it to teach game development, for whom Rosebud runs a dedicated education program.
