Summary
A Mac budgeting app whose AI chat runs entirely on your machine, so your ledger and your questions never leave your disk.

Description
Pulse Local is a full personal-budgeting app for macOS that pairs a conventional ledger with an on-device AI assistant. Most "local-first" finance tools keep your transactions on disk but still send each question, plus the rows that answer it, to a hosted model. Pulse Local downloads small language models once (about 434 MB, plus an optional 2.5 GB verifier model on Macs with more than 16 GB of memory) and runs them next to your data, so there is no endpoint your questions could be sent to.
What you get
- Spending plans and targets, categories, rules, rollover, splits, cash-flow views and a forecast
- A chat that answers from your own transactions, such as "how much did I spend on restaurants in September?" or "what are my subscriptions?", and shows what it counted so you can check the month and category
- Supported spending answers are calculated from your transactions rather than generated, and on larger Macs they are read twice before a figure appears; when the two readings disagree it says it is unsure
- CSV and bank-file import from any country and currency, with 75 countries in the picker and no exchange-rate conversion
- No account, no analytics and no crash reporting; the only network request besides the one-time model download is an optional update check
Pricing and platforms
The Mac app (Apple Silicon, beta, signed and notarised) is free with every feature included, with optional $20 and $40 supporter payments. Optional US bank sync through Plaid is the one paid extra, at $29 a year for the Sync Pass. A Windows version is planned. The chat currently answers in English.
It suits privacy-minded people who want an AI budgeting assistant without handing their finances to a cloud service.
