Polycam

Polycam takes a phone scan of a room, an object or a building and produces the documents that construction, insurance and design work actually run on: 2D and 3D floor plans, as-builts, dimensioned measurements, estimates, claims records and CAD-ready 3D exports. No tripod, no survey technician, no waiting on a scanning contractor.

Capture methods

• 3D scanning for interiors and structures that works on phones without LiDAR, not only on Pro models
• Photogrammetry from photos or video for objects and detailed surfaces
• Gaussian splats, the newer radiance-field technique that produces markedly more realistic captures of complex scenes than a traditional mesh
• Drone and aerial capture for roofs, exteriors and whole sites

Scans can be measured, annotated, cropped, rescaled and labelled directly in the app.

Outputs

Floor plans export to AutoCAD, SketchUp and Revit. 3D geometry exports as .obj, .dae, .fbx, .stl, .dxf, .ply and .esx, alongside raw point clouds. Shareable 360° tour links cover clients and remote stakeholders who do not need the files themselves.

Who uses it

Construction documentation and progress tracking, renovation and design visualisation, insurance and restoration damage assessment, site survey, BIM coordination, and factory or equipment layout. Polycam Web — included free — lets anyone view, edit and export from a desktop, and shared libraries keep a team on one copy of a site.

Scale and pricing

Polycam reports 34 million scans from more than 10 million people, covering over 2 billion square feet. The Free tier covers limited captures, GLTF export and public link sharing. Basic is $150 a year ($30 monthly) for unlimited object and space captures plus six mesh export formats. Business is $300 a year per user and adds 2D/3D floor plans, advanced measurement, team collaboration and virtual walkthroughs. Enterprise is $1,200 a year per seat with a three-seat minimum, adding custom branding, content-management APIs and enhanced data-privacy options. Annual plans carry a seven-day trial.
