Remini

Remini is a photo restoration app built around a single, narrow job: taking a degraded image and reconstructing detail that the original file no longer holds. Old family scans, compressed screenshots, low-light phone photos and pixelated crops go in; sharp, high-definition versions come out, usually from one tap and without any manual masking or slider work.

The core model is tuned for faces, which is what separates it from a generic upscaler. Skin texture, hair and eyes are rebuilt rather than merely sharpened, so heavily damaged vintage portraits — the use case that made the app popular — survive the process looking like photographs instead of smeared paint. Beyond restoration, the app handles portrait retouching, colourisation of black-and-white images, background enhancement, and a rotating set of generative filters and AI portrait styles that reimagine a selfie in a given look.

Remini is developed by Bending Spoons, the Milan-based company behind Evernote, Meetup, WeTransfer and Vimeo. The vendor states over 100 million photos have been processed. It ships on iOS and Android with a companion web version.

Pricing is freemium: a limited number of free enhancements per day, with a subscription unlocking unlimited processing, higher-resolution output, faster queues and the full filter catalogue. Subscriptions auto-renew and are managed through the App Store or Play Store account.

Worth knowing before you rely on it: because the model generates plausible detail rather than recovering it, restored faces can drift subtly from the original. That is fine for reviving a family album and a poor fit for evidentiary, archival or identification work. Best used for personal photo restoration, social profile pictures, and rescuing shots that would otherwise be unusable.
