Description
What it is
Canva AI is the current name for the AI features built into Canva. Canva launched them as Magic Studio, and the Magic Studio page (canva.com/magic) now presents them as Canva AI. The familiar Magic tools are still there. On top of them, Canva announced Canva AI 2.0 at Canva Create 2026: a conversational, agent-style layer that generates designs from a prompt. Canva describes it as a research preview that is still rolling out.
Key features
- Design generation: create designs, templates and elements from a prompt, generate designs that follow your brand kit, and use Style Match to make a design consistent with a chosen style.
- Magic Layers: turns AI-generated designs into editable, layered layouts.
- Images and video: photo, shape and 3D generators; Magic Background; a point-and-click AI photo editor; image-to-video; and a video clip generator.
- Writing and data: Magic Write for drafting and rewriting in your brand voice, Translate, Magic Resize for changing formats and languages, and Magic Insights and Magic Formulas for working with data.
- Canva Code: builds interactive experiences, such as forms and data-driven widgets, from a prompt.
- Canva AI 2.0 (preview): you describe a goal or upload a sketch, and the assistant builds the design and keeps every element editable. It also remembers your style. Its workflows cover connectors (Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, Zoom, HubSpot and others), scheduled tasks, web research, brand application, Sheets AI, and Canva Code 2.0 with HTML import. The company says it runs on its own Canva Design Model.
Who it's for
Anyone who already designs in Canva, from solo creators to marketing teams, and wants to go from a prompt to an editable draft. Business and Enterprise plans add admin controls over AI. Canva says it does not use your content to improve its AI features unless your privacy settings allow it.
Pricing
AI tools fall into three tiers: Standard, Premium and Ultra. Premium and Ultra tools draw on a monthly AI allowance, and Ultra tools use more of it per task. As listed on Canva's pricing page in October 2026 (USD):
- Free: up to 20 uses a month of Standard or Premium AI tools. No Ultra AI.
- Pro: US$144/year for one person. Standard tools under fair use, plus up to 200 Premium or 20 Ultra uses a month. Includes Canva AI 2.0 and connectors.
- Business: US$250/year per person. Up to 400 Premium or 40 Ultra uses a month.
- Enterprise: contact sales. Canva Shield AI output indemnity is available from 100 seats.
Pro and Business users can buy an AI Pass add-on, and Business users can buy one-off AI top-ups. During a free trial, the AI allowance is the same as on Free. Eligible K-12 schools and nonprofits get most premium features free.
