Description

Real Dental Costs is a Model Context Protocol server that gives an AI assistant a structured, citable dataset on what dental care costs in the United States and Canada, so a question like "is this implant quote reasonable in Ohio?" gets an answer tied to a named source and period rather than a guess.

The remote server (Streamable HTTP, no API key or sign-in) exposes 13 tools: cash price bands for 12 common procedures nationally and, for most of them, by state; side-by-side comparison of two to five states; what Medicaid paid per claim line by CDT code; each state's adult Medicaid dental rules and annual caps; a line-by-line benchmark of a treatment plan against the state band; out-of-pocket estimates from the user's own plan figures (deductible, annual maximum, coinsurance); Original Medicare's statutory dental exclusion with its legal sources; Canadian provincial costs and CDCP coverage; national spending statistics; recent program changes; and low-cost care routes.

Every figure carries its source URL, its period and whether it is observed or estimated. The project publishes its corrections: in October 2026 it relabelled its state implant series as an editorial estimate and withdrew city-level figures, and the server applies that correction. It is market research, not a quote or medical advice, and it needs no personal identifiers — only procedure codes, amounts and plan figures.

The server code is MIT-licensed on GitHub; the underlying datasets are CC BY 4.0, with third-party figures keeping their own terms. A local stdio version runs through npx or Docker, though the npm package lags the remote server and carries fewer tools.
