Description
What it is
Whimsical AI is the set of AI features inside Whimsical, a visual workspace for flowcharts, mind maps, wireframes, sequence diagrams, sticky-note boards and docs. Its main entry point is Whimsical Agent, a chat panel inside the app that creates and edits diagrams and answers questions about your workspace. An MCP server brings the same abilities to outside AI tools. Whimsical says diagram generation is powered by Anthropic's Claude models, and that Anthropic does not retain this data or use it for training.
Key features
- Prompt to diagram: describe a process, idea or screen and the agent builds an editable flowchart, mind map, wireframe, sequence diagram, sticky-note layout or doc on your board. You can then ask it to revise the result.
- Workspace-aware chat: the agent can search the current board or the whole workspace, read files you @-mention or Whimsical links you paste, and work from uploaded images. Chats are private to the person who started them.
- AI wireframes: generate wireframes and wireflows for web and mobile screens from a text prompt.
- Whimsical MCP: a remote MCP server at
mcp.whimsical.com/mcp, with OAuth sign-in, lets AI assistants search and read your files and create new diagrams, mind maps and wireframes. It is listed in Claude's connector directory and available as a ChatGPT and Cursor plugin. A local desktop MCP for tools such as Claude Code and Codex is set up through support. - The workspace: real-time collaboration, Slack and GitHub integrations, and desktop apps for macOS and Windows.
Who it's for
Product managers, engineers, designers and operations teams who sketch processes, system flows and early product ideas, and who want a first draft generated instead of placing every box by hand. The MCP server suits people who already work in an AI assistant and want its plans or architectures to land as real Whimsical diagrams.
Pricing
AI is billed separately from Whimsical seats. As listed on Whimsical's pricing page and help centre in October 2026:
- AI credits: every user gets 10 free credits. After that, credits are bought at $0.10 each, in bundles of 250 ($25), 1,000 ($100) or 10,000 ($1,000), and expire one year after purchase. Complex requests such as wireframes use more credits.
- Free: $0. Unlimited boards, up to 50 board objects and 50 doc blocks per month, watermarked exports and 7-day version history.
- Pro: $10 per editor per month billed annually. Unlimited objects and doc blocks, no watermark and 90-day version history.
- Business: $20 per editor per month billed annually. Adds private teams, SAML SSO, SCIM and unlimited version history.
Monthly billing costs more; Whimsical says annual billing saves 17%. Viewers and guests are free on every plan.
