Description

Trigger.dev is an open-source platform for running long-lived work, background jobs, workflows and AI agents, written as ordinary TypeScript. Developers define tasks in their own codebase, deploy them with the CLI, and Trigger.dev runs them on managed infrastructure with no timeouts, so a task can call an LLM, wait for a human, sleep for days and resume where it left off. Retries, queues and concurrency limits, idempotency keys, scheduled (cron) tasks and checkpointing are built in, and runs can be replayed or bulk-managed from the dashboard.

AI agents are now the platform's headline use case. Its docs cover common agent patterns such as prompt chaining, routing, parallelisation, orchestrator-workers and evaluator-optimiser, and there are guides for the Claude Agent SDK, chat agents and Next.js. Realtime streams send a task's progress and LLM output to the frontend, and webhooks (October 2026) let Slack, Stripe, GitHub and other services kick off agent runs directly. Every run gets an OpenTelemetry trace with logs and spans, plus built-in metrics dashboards and alerts. An MCP server and agent rules let coding assistants work with a Trigger.dev project, and the platform supports both Node.js and Bun runtimes.

The code is Apache 2.0 licensed and can be self-hosted. Trigger.dev Cloud has a free tier with monthly credits, a Hobby plan at $10 per month and Pro at $50 per month, with compute billed by usage beyond the included credits.
