Loqua

Loqua is a desktop dictation tool for macOS and Windows that treats speech as a first-class input method rather than a transcription feature. You press a global shortcut in whatever window already has your cursor — Slack, Gmail, Notion, VS Code, a terminal, a Figma comment — speak, and finished text lands in place.

The distinction Loqua draws is between transcription and writing. Rather than typing what you said word for word, it strips filler words and false starts, resolves the repetition and self-correction that natural speech is full of, and applies structure: bullet lists, headings and hierarchy appear where your phrasing implied them. The company cites roughly 220 words per minute of dictation against about 45 for typing.

Beyond dictation

Capture to ask. Take a screenshot and ask about it out loud — a chart, an error trace, a dense page of documentation — and get an answer without leaving the window.

Speak to edit. Select existing text and describe the change you want instead of retyping it, which makes the tool useful for revision rather than only first drafts.

Mid-sentence translation. Loqua handles switching languages part-way through a sentence and translates across roughly 100 languages, which matters for multilingual teams who compose in one language and send in another.

Context detection. The app adapts its output to the application you are dictating into, and a custom dictionary with batch import teaches it the proper nouns, product names and jargon that general speech models reliably get wrong. Text-to-speech will also read a page back to you.

More than 30 applications are explicitly supported, including Google Docs, Microsoft Word and Excel, Teams, Obsidian, GitHub, GitLab, IntelliJ IDEA, Discord and Zoom.

The Free plan needs no credit card and covers 5,000 dictated words a week, multilingual translation, Ask Anything, Speak to Edit, basic context detection, the custom dictionary and 10 screenshot captures a week. Pro is $12/month billed monthly or $10/month billed annually, and lifts dictation and captures to unlimited while adding full context intelligence. A 14-day trial is available.

Loqua suits people who write all day in short bursts across many applications — engineers narrating commits and prompts, support and sales staff answering in volume, and anyone who thinks faster out loud than through a keyboard.
