Happy Shrimp

Happy Shrimp is an AI music generation platform from Alibaba, built on the HappyShrimp 1.0 model and launched in beta in August 2026. You describe a mood, a story or a musical style in plain language and the model writes the melody, the arrangement and the lyrics, then performs them.

What it generates

The model is not limited to prompt-to-song. You can supply your own lyrics and have the model set them to music, or request a purely instrumental track. Coverage spans Chinese-style music, pop, R&B and soul, hip hop, rock, funk, electronic, classical and jazz, and the catalogue of published tracks is visibly multilingual.

The interface

The studio is one prompt box with a 5,000-character limit, an Instrumental toggle, a Smart Lyrics helper and a control for how many songs to generate per run (two by default). A shuffle control offers starting ideas. Beyond creation it works as a community: published tracks are browsable through Trending Now, Global Top and Fresh Drops charts with play and like counts, and listeners can comment on what others release.

Provenance and access

Happy Shrimp was developed by Alibaba Token Hub, an AI business group launched in March 2026 and overseen directly by Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu — so this is a major-platform release rather than an indie tool. China's Taihe Music signed on for artist co-creation at launch. The product runs as happyshrimp.ai globally and happyshrimp.cn in China.

Access is free to try, with daily free credits during the launch period; memberships start at $14.90 per month and credit packages start at $9.90. The service is still labelled Beta.

Who it is for

Creators who need original background music for video, games or podcasts without licensing negotiations, songwriters testing arrangements of their own lyrics, and anyone curious about where large-scale music models have reached. It sits directly opposite Suno and Udio, with Alibaba's distribution and a built-in listening community as the difference.
