Khanmigo

What it is

Khanmigo is the AI tutor and teaching assistant from Khan Academy, the education nonprofit. It is built into Khan Academy's library of math, science, humanities and coding content. Unlike a general chatbot, it is designed not to hand over answers. Instead it asks guiding questions so that students work problems out themselves.

Key features

• For learners: tutoring on Khan Academy content from algebra to SQL, guided writing and debate practice with feedback, coding help, college-admissions and career coaching, and a saved chat history. A Writing Coach for essay practice is also offered as a separate free tool.
• For parents: add up to 10 children under 18 from a parent account, view their Khanmigo conversations and receive moderation alerts.
• For teachers: standards-aligned lesson plans tied to Khan Academy content, summaries of recent student work, and generators for rubrics, learning objectives, quiz questions, exit tickets, student groupings and differentiated material.
• New for back-to-school 2026: with support from Google.org, Khanmigo can generate interactive math and science diagrams that students can manipulate. Teachers can also use Gemini to draft multiple-choice practice in the Practice My Knowledge tool, and they review the questions before assigning them.
• For districts: student and teacher access, school and district data, rostering and SSO through Clever or ClassLink, and professional learning on AI.

Who it's for

Khanmigo is for K-12 and adult learners who want a patient tutor that pushes them to think, for parents supporting homework, and for teachers who want to cut prep time. Students cannot be added by an individual teacher. Classroom access for students comes only through a school or district partnership. Teacher access is offered in more than 180 countries and territories, while student access as a parent or learner is US-only.

Pricing

• Teachers: free.
• Learners: $4 a month or $44 a year (sales tax not included).
• Families: $4 a month or $44 a year from a parent account, covering up to 10 children.
• Districts: custom pricing on request.
