Description
Chat2DB is a database client for Windows, macOS and Linux with an AI assistant built into the editor. You connect your databases in one workspace, then describe what you need in plain language and get SQL back, ask the assistant to explain or repair a failing query with one click, or have it generate table definitions and code from an existing schema. The same AI can answer questions about the data, produce charts and assemble them into shareable dashboards.
What it connects to
The supported list is unusually long for a single client: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, SQLite, MariaDB, ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, DuckDB, TiDB, CockroachDB and DB2 sit alongside MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, Cassandra and Neo4j, plus several Chinese databases such as DM, Kingbase, OceanBase and GaussDB. Beyond querying, it covers everyday administration: a visual table and data editor, ER diagrams, import and export of CSV, Excel and SQL files, data migration and schema synchronisation between databases, SSH tunnelling and a team SQL audit log.
How the AI sees your data
Chat2DB says query execution happens locally and only table structure is shared with the model, not row data. Teams can add business definitions as AI column comments so generated SQL uses their own terminology. A recent release also added integration with SQLX, a companion command-line tool for letting AI agents work with databases, and the client exposes an MCP token for agent access.
Editions and pricing
The Community edition is open source under the Apache 2.0 licence and free, but it covers fewer databases and includes no AI calls. Paid Local (offline or single-user, with hosted AI when online) and Pro (cross-device sync, team collaboration, unlimited database types) licences come with a 30-day free trial and education and non-profit discounts. Enterprise adds SSO, private deployment and model fine-tuning on request.
