AgentMicro

AgentMicro is a small macOS menu bar companion for developers who run several Codex tasks at once. Instead of cycling through windows to find out which agent is still thinking and which one is blocked waiting for an answer, you get the whole queue in the menu bar.

Five states, honestly reported

Each task shows one of five colours: idle, unread result, thinking, needs input, or error. Where AgentMicro cannot tell what a task is doing, it displays idle rather than inventing a sixth misleading colour — a small design decision that says a lot about how the app treats ambiguity. The menu bar icon itself is a six-tile strip mirroring the first six tasks, animating while work is in progress.

Rows carry the project name, the task title and the current turn duration down to the second — the length of the turn in progress, not the age of the task — plus a lightning badge when Codex fast mode is on. Running tasks sort to the top, then the most recently changed. Clicking a Codex Desktop task opens the matching conversation.

Local-first and read-only

AgentMicro watches local Codex Desktop and CLI process and session metadata through filesystem events with a short polling fallback. It never uploads prompts, responses, source code, command output or task state — there is no account and no cloud service behind it. Base mode does not require macOS Accessibility permission at all; an optional Enhanced Status Detection mode is off by default, reads visible local labels only, and never clicks, types or approves anything on your behalf.

Written in Swift 6.2+ for macOS 14 or later, MIT licensed, with launch-at-login, a configurable 1–20 recent-task list, three display modes, 23 interface languages, an adaptive app icon that follows the system Default/Dark/Clear/Tinted appearances, and signed releases through a Sparkle update feed. It is built on the CodexBar codebase and is an independent community project, not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI or the CodexBar maintainers.
