Xirp

Xirp is the agentic development environment Spotify built for its own engineers and released publicly on 10 August 2026. It sits a layer above the coding agents themselves: instead of committing to one harness, you run Claude Code, Gemini CLI and Codex sessions side by side from a single desktop app, and the working context follows you when you switch between them mid-project.

The scaling trick is git worktrees. Every session gets its own isolated worktree, so dozens of agents can work on the same repository at once without stepping on each other's changes — the difference between running one agent at a time and treating agents as a fleet.

The second half of the product is institutional memory, and it is what distinguishes Xirp from a session manager. Through a Workspace plugin for Spotify Portal, sessions start already knowing which team owns an upstream service, what the dependencies are, and why a given architectural decision was made — the operational context that makes an agent's technically-correct patch actually correct in practice. Sessions also generate living documentation as they run, and when one is wrapped up its context is stored for whoever, human or agent, touches that system next.

Spotify reports that thousands of its engineers adopted Xirp organically across more than 36,000 sessions before the public launch. Sessions can run locally or remotely.

Access is currently a closed beta you apply to from the site, and no pricing has been announced beyond it. Xirp pairs with Spotify Portal, the company's Backstage-based developer portal, though the environment is positioned as useful on its own. Aimed at platform teams and larger engineering organisations that have moved past one-engineer-one-agent and need somewhere for that work to be coordinated.
