Description
Shape is a desktop IDE built on the premise that design and code should not live in separate applications with a hand-off between them. It puts a fast code editor, a visual editing surface for the running app, an AI agent that works directly in the repository, and Git in one window.
Editing the app you can see
The distinctive part is visual editing against a live preview: you change what is on screen and the change lands in the source, rather than in a design file that somebody later has to reimplement. That is the gap Shape is aiming at — a designer can adjust a real component in the real project, and a programmer opens the same file and sees ordinary code.
The agent works in the repo
The built-in AI chat is not a side panel that suggests snippets to copy. It operates on the project itself, alongside the editor and the preview, so a request and its result land in the same place the rest of the work is happening. Git is integrated for the same reason: reviewing a diff, staging and committing do not require dropping to a terminal or a second app.
Language and framework coverage
Shape ships first-class support for the modern web stack — TypeScript and JavaScript, HTML and CSS, Tailwind, React-era frameworks alongside Svelte, Vue and Astro — plus Python, Go, Rust and Node.js. Live previews and Tailwind support are built in rather than bolted on through extensions.
Availability and pricing
Currently a Windows desktop application; the vendor states macOS and Linux are coming. The download is free, and paid Plus, Pro and Max tiers add AI credits and higher usage limits. This is Shape's second Product Hunt launch.
