Description

Speechify reads text aloud. It started as an accessibility tool for dyslexia and has become a mainstream way to get through reading backlogs: books, PDFs, papers, articles, and email, in a natural voice, at whatever speed you can follow.

Where it works

  • Mobile apps that scan physical pages with the camera and read them
  • A browser extension for any web page
  • Desktop apps for documents and PDFs
  • Import from Google Drive, email, and cloud storage

What makes it usable

Voices are natural enough for long listening — the point at which a robotic voice becomes unbearable is around ten minutes, and Speechify is well past that. Speed control goes far beyond typical podcast apps, and regular users often settle around 2–3×. Text highlights in sync with the audio, which helps comprehension and is the core accessibility feature.

Beyond reading

Speechify Studio covers the production side: AI voiceover, dubbing, and voice cloning for video and course content.

A free tier includes standard voices; subscriptions add premium voices, higher speeds, and offline listening.
