Summary
OpenAI's video generation model and social app — text, image, or cameo prompts into short, sound-synced clips.
Description
Sora is OpenAI's video generation system and the app built around it. You describe a scene, optionally supply reference images, and get back a short video with synchronised audio. It is one of the few video models that treats sound as part of the generation rather than something you add afterwards.
What it does
- Text to video with control over style, camera movement, and shot length
- Image to video, animating a still you supply or one you generate first
- Cameos, which let you insert a verified likeness — your own, or someone who has granted permission — into generated scenes
- Remixing, where you take an existing generation and change one aspect of it rather than starting over
- A social feed where generations are shared, remixed, and built on
Access and limits
Sora is available on the web and as a mobile app, with free generations subject to daily limits and higher quotas for paying ChatGPT subscribers. Generated clips are short by design, carry provenance metadata, and are subject to content policies — likeness in particular requires consent, which the cameo system enforces.
