Description
Portfolio Lab is a strategy research tool for self-directed investors who want a systematic approach without building a quant stack themselves. You describe an objective; the platform generates several complete, fully specified portfolios — concrete tickers and weights, such as VTI 30% / SCHD 15% / NVDA 12% — each tuned toward a different goal: maximum return, best risk-adjusted return, or minimum drawdown.
From idea to validated strategy
Strategy families include tactical long/short, momentum, mean reversion and risk-aware hedged approaches. Each candidate goes through a staged validation path — in-sample fit, out-of-sample testing, then live paper trading — so a strategy has to survive data it was never fitted on before you consider funding it. The vendor describes the engine as seven models and 200+ predictors trained over 35+ years of market history.
The agentic part
This is what separates it from a backtesting tool. Portfolio Lab exposes strategies over MCP, so Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP-capable agent can read the target allocation and mirror it in your brokerage account. Portfolio Lab itself does not place trades and does not custody assets; the execution stays with your broker and your agent.

Who is behind it, and the caveats
The platform is operated by alphaAI Capital Management LLC, an investment adviser registered with the SEC. Portfolio Lab states it is for informational and educational purposes only, does not provide personalised investment advice, and does not itself place trades; using it does not create an advisory relationship. All performance figures shown in the product are simulated and hypothetical. Investing carries risk of loss, and automated trading adds risks of its own — treat this as a research instrument, not a guarantee.
Portfolio Lab launched publicly on 10 August 2026.
